MR HUGH JEWSBURY

Mr Jewsbury is a highly skilled Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based in Cardiff, Newport & South Wales. His NHS consultant practice is at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, specialising in Cataract surgery, Strabismus (squints), Neuro-Ophthalmology & Paediatric Ophthalmology.

Privately Mr Jewsbury sees patients at Spire Hospital Cardiff, St Joseph’s Hospital Newport, Nuffield Hospital in Cardiff Bay and Sana Private Health (Pencoed) where he offers expert care in routine and complex cataract surgery and has undertaken over 5000 cataract operations.  In addition he undertakes routine and complex squint surgery for adults and children.

Mr Jewsbury graduated from Southampton University in 2006 obtaining a distinction in his medical degree and a 1st Class Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences. He completed general medical training in Bath. He has specialised in ophthalmology for approaching 20 years and undertook his training in Wales, obtaining the award of Senior Trainee of The Year, across all medical & surgical specialities in 2013. He has completed a world-renowned fellowship (super-specialist training) in Neuro-Ophthalmology, Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

 

Mr Jewsbury is actively involved in both national & international research focused on neuro-ophthalmology & strabismus. He trains specialist registrars in cataract and strabismus (squint) surgery and is the Royal College of Ophthalmology Tutor at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. He is also an Honorary lecturer for Cardiff University Medical School.
